Event description

Description

Uncertain Territories is an exhibition of new work by:

Didi Jellema
Catherine Ross
Julie-Ann Simpson
Izzy Thomson
Katie H. Watson

curated by Julie-Ann Simpson

This exhibition brings five painters together, each with diverse experiences, but seeks to explore the common threads within their work relating to the idea of place. The medium of paint, with its inherent slowness, has always seemed to me ideally suited to the subject of landscape. Both this method and theme have at various times been dismissed as outdated or irrelevant. However, in a digital age of unceasing images the tactility of painting offers a way into a sensory world. Uncertain Territories looks across the practices of these artists to find patterns in the way we see the relationships between nature and culture.

Join us for an informal artists' talk in which we will discuss the themes of the exhibition and the process and inspiration behind specific works in the show. This event is free and everyone is welcome, so please join us for coffee and a chat.
