Event description

Description

A creative writing workshop part of the Uncovered Voices project and Book Week Scotland, free and open to the public!

Uncovered Voices is a project based in Glasgow, Scotland, which aims to promote the writing of sexual and domestic abuse survivors. We’ll be running a series of creative writing workshops at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, where sexual and domestic abuse survivors can workshop their writing ideas and receive guidance from professional authors. To deliver these workshops in a safe space, we’re partnering with Rape Crisis and Glasgow Women’s Aid, to ensure that participants will have support during the workshops.

We will follow these workshops with the publication of a new book of art, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction from survivors, which will raise awareness about sexual and domestic abuse and help survivors to express feelings and trauma through art. We aim to encourage writing as a form of therapy, and to inspire future careers in the arts. We believe both entrepreneurship and creativity are vital in empowering those affected by abuse, helping them to overcome trauma, and letting their voices and perspectives be heard.

We are also running a launch for printed copies of the finished anthology on 28 November at the Glad Cafe. Register for the literary reading on Eventbrite here.

This project is linked with Uncovered Artistry, a non-profit organisation that helps survivors of domestic and sexual abuse to sell their artwork and crafts.

This is a free event.
