Event description

Description

The Falcon Brook is one of South London's lost rivers that rises in Tooting and Streatham. Now largely forgotten and completely underground, Jon Newman's two mile guided walk follows its lower course from close by Wandsworth Common to its former mouth into the Thames at Battersea. Along the way he will discuss the river's history and previous uses, how it has helped to define the local landscape, the way it became incorporated into Bazalgette's system of main drainage for London in the 1860s and the traces of it that can still be seen today. This is not a circular walk.
