This is a creative workshop aimed at families to come and have a go at creating their own seascape out of wire - as Derbyshire is the county furthest from the sea, Artist Lise Bennett will help bring the sea to Derbyshire!

Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner eager to explore new artistic ventures with your family, this workshop is designed for all skill levels. Lise Bennett's expertise and passion for wire art will ensure you leave with newfound confidence and a beautiful piece to call your own.

Join us at Shining Cliff Hostel, the perfect backdrop for an immersive artistic experience. Surrounded by nature, you'll find yourself truly inspired as you discover the intricacies of wire sculpting. This workshop offers you the chance to unwind, connect with nature, and tap into your creative side.

Shining Cliff hostel is located in the heart of Shining Cliff woods near Ambergate, and is only accessible by foot along woodland footpaths. It is possible to walk up through the woods from the train station or bus stops at Ambergate, or to walk down to the hostel from the private woodland car park, which is half a mile away from the hostel. Directions are provided on booking.

Owing to the location of Shining Cliff hostel, it is necessary for participants to be able to walk along uneven and sloping woodland footpaths to get to the hostel.

The workshop will take place in the open plan lounge & dining area with fantastic views out onto the ancient woodland.

The cost of the workshop has been subsidised by grant funding secured by Lise, for which we are very grateful.

Occasionally a session is cancelled at short notice if there are high winds/thunderstorms forecast. If the session is cancelled for weather conditions you will be fully refunded.

On booking the workshop you will receive a confirmation email and a link to the directions for the session. Please follow these directions if you have not been to the hostel before, as satnav will take you to the wrong side of the woods! You will get a reminder of the directions a few days before the event.

If you are unable to attend after purchasing a ticket, we can refund your ticket (minus the Eventbrite processing fee)if it is more than 7 days before the workshop, but we are unable to refund tickets 7 days or fewer before the workshop.

Add an overnight stay to your workshop!

It is possible to extend your experience in this stunning woodland by booking a bed at the hostel for just £5/night as part of our 'Affordable August' offer.

It is possible to book a private bedroom on the Wednesday or Thursday night. The hostel has 5 bedrooms available, all with bunk beds. You can request a room to yourself, or if you are booking with friends, there are 2-bed, 4-bed and 6-bed rooms available to book.

If you book on the Wednesday night you can arrive from 5pm onwards, and we will be at the hostel setting up for the session from 11am on Thursday. The departure time on Friday morning will be 10am.

If you add a room booking at Shining Cliff hostel you will receive a Welcome Pack that includes information on accessing the hostel and what you need to bring with you.

Woodland Connections grew from a shared love of the woodland and a passion for encouraging children and adults to enjoy the benefits of being in nature. We now provide a wide variety of events in the woodland, all of which are based around the 5 Ways to Well-Being: Give, Connect, Keep Learning, Be Active, Take Notice.

We provide sessions for adults, for families and for children. From 1:1's, private group bookings, to themed days and workshops. There are fun, creative imaginative days and calm, peaceful, relaxing days. Days to rest your mind and soul, days to boost your mood and lift your spirits.

We welcome staff well-being groups, family gatherings, children's birthdays and more.

Whatever kind of day you would like in the woods, get in touch and we will work with you to create a wonderful day for your group.

On the other hand, we can come to you! If you have a natural space and would like to have a day of nature connection, we can travel so get in touch to discuss options!
