About this event

Coire Glas is the first large scale pumped storage hydro scheme to be developed in the UK in over 40 years and is located in the Great Glen of Scotland.

The scheme has a potential generating capacity of up to 1,300MW and it would more than double Great Britain’s current electricity storage capacity.

SSE Renewables undertook extensive investigations both from the surface and underground across the proposed development. This presentation focuses on the phase of underground drilling and testing that was carried out from the exploratory adit in the second half of 2024, summarising the works undertaken and outlining some of the challenges experienced during this unique investigation.
