This event aims to raise awareness and educate attendees about the dangers of predatory lending, commonly known as loan sharks.
About the event:
This session will raise awareness and provide education on illegal money lending, as well as offering support and safeguarding advice to victims. The PSNI will cover:
- What illegal money lending is
- Signs to look out for
- Actions to take if someone discloses illegal money lending
We will look the at what other support the PSNI can provide to the Network such as speaking at community events, looking at the dangers of borrowing from illegal lenders and offer support to victims, even if they do not wish to make a formal complaint.

Foundation Level - Signposting customers: all practitioners – no matter their job role – must be able to elicit simple, information from the customer in order to signpost them to appropriate sources of further support, advice or information.
Before attending this session, you could spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.
