Course Content

Using trauma informed approaches in schools can have many immediate and long-term benefits. Adopting a whole school approach, and applying that knowledge into work with individuals and small groups of pupils is a powerful way to address the growing mental health needs in our schools.

The first session will provide a comprehensive overview of the national picture in terms of the impact of childhood trauma and mental health in schools and provide knowledge and understanding of the underpinning theory and examples of the practical application of this.

The follow up sessions will each focus on a key strategy that can be practised with colleagues (in the online meeting) and then used with children in your school setting. Delegates will then bring their learning back to the following session, review impact and build upon this with the next strategy. To benefit from this programme delegates should be in a position to be able to work with a child/children directly between sessions to embed their learning fully.

Sessions are suitable for practitioners who will be working directly with children in school and are in a position where they can affect change in the SEMH work of the school. They are also suitable for school leaders who are interested in building this approach in school or sharing their learning from this programme with colleagues in school.
