Increase your understanding of autism and help create an inclusive society for autistic people
It is estimated that over 700,000 people in the UK are autistic. The levels of support and adjustments that each autistic person needs is totally unique to each individual. If you'd like to learn more about autism and promote autism acceptance, this course will give you an understanding of neurodiversity and how to support autistic people.
Having a clear understanding of the misconceptions, diagnoses and support surrounding autism are just some of the essential skills needed when working with autistic people. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to understand more about neurodivergence and decrease misinformation around autism.
What will I learn?
This course has 6 units:
- How autistic people process sensory information
- The characteristics that may be present in autistic individuals
- The conditions that commonly occur with autism
- Common misconceptions surrounding autism
- How speech, language and communication may differ in autistic people
- How legislation and guidance underpins support
How will I study?
We call our online courses 'flexible' learning as they're designed to fit around your other commitments. You'll get access to our online learning platform where you'll work through your assessments with support from a subject specialist tutor.
How long is the course?
The duration of the course is 7 weeks

Eligibility Criteria
There is Government Funding available for this course as part of the 'Adult Skills Fund'
You must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:
- You must currently live in England
- You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study
- You must be over the age of 19
- You must not be on an apprenticeship
If you enrol onto this course but fail to complete, please be aware there is a £125 administration charge
