As a result of her research into the experiences of bereaved parents and siblings Cathy has developed a series of workshops for professionals.

Each of these two-hour online sessions will provide the participants with information, examples and findings from the research which may help them to have a greater understanding of, and be able to provide support to, this often-neglected client group.

Workshop 7: Creative ways of Processing Loss

Whilst talking about their loss can be incredibly useful for those who are grieving, sometimes their experience is beyond words. This can be for various reasons, perhaps their loss is so devastating they have no words, they feel ‘struck dumb.’ Others may simply not want to talk because they cannot face seeing the expressions of shock, horror, or distress from others. A few may prefer to keep their thoughts and feelings to themselves until they’ve had a chance to begin processing their experiences.

All of these are valid and as professionals it’s useful to know of various techniques that can be used to help those who are bereaved.

This workshop will introduce participants to:

  1. The ATTEND Model
  2. Sand Tray Work
  3. Journaling
  4. Salt Bottles
  5. Letter Writing

Throughout the workshop participants will be invited to bring their own case examples so they can get the maximum benefit for their existing work. Examples from Cathy’s research and previous work will be shared. Participants will be introduced to various tools and techniques and motivated to consider how they may apply them to their current or future work. They will be encouraged to explore how this knowledge may influence their work particularly when working with others who are grieving.

This workshop will be hosted on the Zoom meeting platform where we will use our camera and microphones to interact with each other as a group.

To support practitioners in this time of extraordinary circumstances we are offering access to this group for a self-select fee.

The self-select fee is a radical inclusion policy to open learning for all colleagues. The guide price for this event is £20.00, however, we appreciate that income varies greatly in different locations and circumstances. Please contribute what you can to help us maintain inclusive professional training.

All the colleagues at ONLINEVENTS and the presenters we collaborate with are committed to working in a manner consistent with the BACP Ethical Framework, which can be accessed on the link below. When registering for this event you are agreeing to be present and interact in a manner that is consistent with this Framework.
