Overview

Explore how to support children’s understanding of Key Words and Blank Levels questions in the classroom and day to day.

This course develops the practitioner’s understanding of Blank Levels of questioning and Information Carrying Words (ICW), also known as Key Word Levels.

Many children often have difficulties moving forward with their understanding. This includes key words used in instructions and questions at the child’s expected age, and question words in simpler to abstract language (who, what, where when, why and how), including making predictions and inferences about stories and events.

The course aims to cover and explore how to support children’s understanding of key words and Blank Levels questions in the classroom and day to day.


Aims:

· To understand what Blank Levels and Information Carrying Words (ICW) are.

· To be able to identify questions and understanding related to key Blank Levels.

· To be able to adapt your language and learning to support children at key word levels and Blank Levels

· To identify what resource you can use to support a child’s understanding of Blank Levels and Information Carrying Words.


Ideal for:

Any practitioners working with children who struggle with English, topic work, maths vocabulary, understanding language and using language.


This course is particularly helpful for staff who are developing their skills in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).


Please note: This course will be run as an online training session via Microsoft Teams. When you book, you will receive information about how to access the training and how the session will be run.

Please note that our training courses and workshops are designed to be interactive, to ensure participants get the most from the session. With this in mind, we ask that you check to ensure that both your camera and microphone are working prior to the course.

Each person attending the training needs to purchase an individual ticket. Several participants may join the training from the same device but each participant must have purchased an individual ticket. Additional participants who have not bought a ticket are not allowed to sit and watch the training, either in or out of the camera view, and will be asked to leave.

  • More than 2 weeks before the start date – no charge/full refund.
  • Less than 2 weeks before the start date – full charge applies.

Transfer policy:

  • You may transfer your place on a course to an alternative participant or to an alternative date at any time prior to the start date but please inform us of the change.
  • Failure to attend a course will not entitle you to transfer to another course/date and neither will you be able to transfer your place to others.
