Understanding Blocks in Phase 4 of EMDR : Developing Skills for Repair
Overview
Bridging the Gap - Between EMDR Training and Practice
Part Two - Understanding Blocks in Phase 4 of EMDR - Developing Skills for Repair
Processing can be easily derailed, leading to clients and therapists feeling overwhelmed with intense feelings, or conversely wondering if anything is happening.
Part two of this series of workshops reviews firstly, how to assess if processing is at its potential or is being blocked, then explores techniques that can be used to enhance repair.
Blocks can come about when planning the sequencing for processing, when attempting to understand the clients underpinning beliefs (negative cognitions) and during processing of the remembered event. Remembering that blocks are ways to protect from pain, the workshop introduces a structure to assess the block then match this with an intervention to help the client free this block and work towards more effective processing of their underlying trauma.
Common blocks will be presented with corresponding ways/techniques to aid processing. There will be opportunities to practice skills and troubleshoot common themes in group discussions and breakout rooms.
Suitability This series of workshops is suitable for any trained EMDR therapist who would like to develop their EMDR skills.
It is not necessary to have completed part one of this series, this is a stand-alone workshop.
