Understanding children’s ‘accommodation’ of parental separation and divorce

Over time, most children experiencing their parents’ separation adjust to the changes it brings. The extent to which they ‘accommodate’ these changes is influenced by many factors. Through analysis of young adults’ retrospective accounts, experiences encouraging a higher ‘accommodation’ of parental separation were identified.

This seminar will outline research tools created with young people to give voice to young adults’ experiences. It will present a framework for understanding children’s accommodation of parental separation for use by practitioners supporting children and families.
