About this event

Experiencing domestic abuse - physical attacks, emotional abuse, psychological maltreatment, sexual violence, and other abuse are certain to impact a person’s wellbeing. However, children who witness the abuse of their mothers, fathers, or other family members, are also impacted by the intimate terrorism. For the first time in history children and young people are recognised as victims in their own right by law, if they live in a home where domestic abuse takes place. The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises a child who sees or hears, or experiences the effects of, domestic abuse and is related to the person being abused or the perpetrator is also to be regarded as a victim of domestic abuse. This CPD accredited course will give you understanding of the lasting psychological, emotional, physical and social effects of a child’s exposure to domestic abuse. Our training looks into the impact of developmental trauma and possible representations of trauma in children. By the end of the training you will be knowledgeable about the effective ways of supporting a child who witnessed or experienced abuse and you will be confident to develop your own practice when working with traumatised children.
