Understanding Communication Difficulties After Stroke.
Overview
Lead by an NHS Speech and Language Therapist MSc, HCPC and RCSLT registered, with 7 years experience in Stroke Rehabilitation, in London and Surrey Hospitals.
Having a stroke can be overwhelming. Many people leave hospital with lots of questions and little time to adjust.
This online session is for:
- People nationwide of any age, who have had a recent stroke
- People with mild–moderate aphasia or communication difficulties
- Family members and carers welcome.
Please note: This session is not therapy and does not replace NHS services. The session is designed to offer support and reassurance while you are waiting for community speech and language therapy.
What will happen in the session?
In this session, you will:
- Learn what a stroke is and how it can affect communication and thinking
- Learn about word finding difficulties and what aphasia is
- Learn about recovery, fatigue, and brain healing (neuroplasticity)
- Learn practical strategies to improve ease of communication
- Get information about useful resources and support
- Have an opportunity to ask questions in a safe, supportive environment
Session details
- Online (Zoom)
- Monthly/bi-monthly depending on demand
- £30 per session (to cover preparation time)
- Small group to keep it calm and supportive (Maximum 5–6 people, including carers)
