Join us for a focused CPD session exploring delirium led by palliative care consultant physician Dr Joseph Sawyer. We’ll look at how to recognise and respond to delirium at different points of the disease trajectory as well as understanding its causes, potential treatments, and supportive measures. This session is designed specifically for end of life doulas and will include space for questions, discussion, and reflection on real-world case studies.
Joe is a palliative care consultant at St Elizabeth Hospice, Ipswich. He has a passion for developing the fields of public health palliative care, compassionate communities, and social approaches to death, dying and loss. He completed his undergraduate medical training at Imperial College London before holding the position of academic clinical fellow in palliative medicine at University College London. In 2020 he was awarded an Alzheimer’s Society Clinical Training Fellowship to research the role of compassionate communities for people affected by dementia. This led to his PhD which was awarded in 2024. Joe’s ongoing research focusses on integrative models of care that build links between statutory and non-statutory services whilst building community capacity to provide better care and support towards the end of life.
