10am – 1pm
The aim of this Forces in Mind Trust funded conference is to share insights from new research undertaken within the Armed Forces community into domestic violence and abuse (DVA) and explore how we can advance methods used to improve the support offered to serving and ex serving personnel and their families.
The conference will include the following:
• Findings from the FiMT funded project by Dr. Emma Williamson, University of Bristol
• Findings from the Kings College London project undertaken by Dr. Deirdre MacManus
• Findings from Dr Harriet Gray’s research on Responses to Domestic Abuse in the British Armed Forces
• Information on the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Domestic Abuse Strategy and Update to Policy Guidance (JSP913)
Both the MOD strategy and the Williamson report highlight the need for three improvements:
• Improved national co-ordination
• Better communication between the military and specialist DVA sectors
• Local networking between military and DVA services
