Aims:

On completing this course delegates should be:

  • More informed about the nature of eating disorders, their development, and their course

  • Aware of the function of eating disorders and how these impact on eating, families, and feelings

  • Better able to recognise signs & symptoms

  • Knowledgeable about the assessment of eating disorders in young people by specialist services

  • Informed about the external and specialist help available

Ideal for:

Staff in pastoral roles in schools, cluster based and voluntary sector staff, social workers, school nurses, counsellors, and CAMHS staff in need of more information on eating disorders.

Overview:

This half day course is run in partnership between Leeds CAMHS Specialist Eating Disorder Service and the University of Leeds. It will provide a basic understanding of the types of eating disorder, their presentation, and who is affected. Understanding the functional nature of eating disorders in managing mood and social relationships will help place this within a broader context of young people’s mental health and well-being. This course will also provide practical information to help support young people with an eating disorder.

Free places:

Available to professionals working with children and young people in the Leeds area. This subsidy is provided joinly by Leeds CAMHS and the University of Leeds.

Bus Stops
The nearest bus stops are outside the main entrance.

Disabled Parking

There is a public car park with 2 disabled parking bays at the rear of the building. The surface from the car park is concrete/tarmac and even. The disabled parking bays are next to the entrance.

Entrances
The 2 accessible entrances face onto the main road at the front and the car park at the rear. The doors are automatic.

Lifts
The building is on 3 floors with 2 lifts.

Accessible Toilets
There are public toilets, all are accessible and there is a Changing Places toilet.
