  • Understanding the legal framework: Relevant legislation including The Children & Families Act 2014 and The SEND Code of Practice 2015

  • Overview of the EHC Needs Assessment process: navigate the stages involved in an EHC needs assessment, including requesting an assessment, gathering information and contributing to the EHC Needs Assessment

  • Understanding the role of professionals: the duties and responsibilities of various professionals who contribute to EHC Needs Assessments and Plans, such as teachers, SENCOs, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals.

  • Identifying and assessing needs: the processes in relation to how Special Educational Needs are identified, including learning difficulties and disabilities, and how to assess their educational, health, and social care needs.

  • Understanding decisions: Learn about the different outcomes of an EHC needs assessment and what it means for you and your child.

  • Challenging decisions: an overview of Parent/Carers and Young people’s rights and routes of redress including complaints, Mediation and Appeals to the First-tier SEND Tribunal.
