About this event
Join the founders of The Other Box, Leyya Sattar and Roshni Goyate in a 4-part webinar series exploring emotions, behaviours and biases that drive all of us in negative and positive ways: Belonging, Shame, Perfectionism and Courage.
With Covid-19, we’re living in a new reality forcing daily changes to our routines. In our own ways, we’re trying to manage and accept uncertainty about our future while dealing with the unknown 24/7. We’re seeking connection, fearing isolation, looking for hope, feeling desperate. It’s no understatement to say it’s a very uncomfortable time to be a human.
Each 45-minute webinar will help identify and address emotions we’re trying to navigate, how they affect our day-to-day relationships, and clear steps on how to shift biases and behaviours.
These sessions are for anyone looking to come out of lockdown with greater awareness and understanding of how to actively contribute to a new normal that serves everyone.

SESSION DETAILS
WEBINAR 01: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FITTING IN AND BELONGING
Thursday 14th May 2020
1pm - 1.45pm
"Fitting in is the greatest barrier to belonging" - Brene Brown.
What if our lifelong pursuit of belonging has been us trying to fit in and we didn't know it? If you've ever struggled with a sense of belonging – and let's face it, most of us have – then this webinar is for you.
In this session, we will:
- Explore the detrimental cycle of compromising oneself when in a lifelong loop of external validation
- Deconstruct the architecture of fitting in and explore the building blocks of belonging
- Share some tools to help know the difference between the two, to nurture belonging and create healthier behaviour equations
WEBINAR 02: IDENTIFYING THE FOUR TYPES OF SHAME
Thursday 21st May 2020
1pm - 1.45pm
Did you know we all feel shame? Yep, it’s true! Now that we have that out of the way, join us as we identify the four distinct types of shame so you can go from hiding your shame in the shadows to turning it into your superpower.
In this session we will:
- Bring awareness to shame formulas and how they affect our relationships.
- Share ways to deal with shame in everyday situations.
- Explore how to move from self-loathing to self-acceptance.
WEBINAR 03: OVERCOMING PERFECTIONISM
Thursday 28th May 2020
1pm - 1.45pm
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." Maya Angelou
Covid-19 isn't the only pandemic we’re in right now. Even before lockdown, we were negotiating life trying to be perfect. In all likelihood, for many of us, this has become a heightened source of stress and anxiety. So why do we do it when we know it's completely unattainable?
In this session we will:
- Understand why and how abandoning your relationship with perfection is going to be the best thing you can do for yourself.
- Explore the critical characteristics of perfectionism so you can identify them in yourself and your behaviour with others.
- Share clear steps to transition from perfectionism to ‘good enough’.
WEBINAR 04: FINDING THE COURAGE TO BE AN ALLY
Thursday 4th June 2020
1pm - 1.45pm
It's pretty tough to find the courage to be an ally when living in cancel culture. Make one wrong move in person or online, and the price to pay is steep. It's enough to make anyone who has good intentions stay tucked into their privilege and comfort and not show up with impact.
In this session, we will
- Guide you towards taking steps, regardless of where you are on this journey, to go from curious to courageous.
- Share simple everyday actions so that you move from intention to impact.
- Raise awareness to the ways in which being an ally is a lifelong journey.

WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT THE OTHER BOX:
The Other Box creates a safe space for diversity and inclusion topics to come alive in a really powerful and dare I say it, enjoyable way.
Monzo
The Other Box delivered unique and interesting training on the unconscious bias which was thought-provoking and interactive. We became aware of our own biases and were shown ways to overcome barriers and challenges. I would recommend their training to anyone who wants to dive into the real detail around this topic, but in a fun and interactive way!
NHS
It has been an amazing journey of learning with The Other Box. Their training is a complete evolution of the standard unconscious bias training and instead explores intersectionality, identity and the responsibility we all have to better inform ourselves. It was a training experience like no other!
Havas
A massive thank you to The Other Box for providing such an engaging and thought-provoking session. The response from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive and left people with lots to think about!
Intuit Quickbooks
Working with The Other Box gave us a practical and insightful overview of how to incorporate inclusive behaviours in the workplace. Their exercises were effective tools that kick-started difficult conversations within our organisation.
