This workshop will introduce delegates to the five components of Daniel Goleman’s model of Emotional Intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills).

The workshop begins with a brief introduction to the neural basis of why we experience emotions and the effects they have on us, making reference to popular current theories and models of behaviour, including Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow, Mischel’s Marshmallow Test, as well as the Chimp Model.

With raised self-awareness, delegates are then invited to explore the cognitive and behavioural elements that they experience when emotional, and to consider ways of regulating and managing the consequences. They consider the concept of motivation in relation to the need for instant gratification (Mischel), and how perspective-taking (the ‘more or less’ frame of mind) can be impaired when emotionality is high.

The social implications of stress and pressure within a small team are looked at using Sapolsky’s five factors that influence psychological stress (outlets for frustration, social support, control, predictability, perceptions of change). Delegates then explore the often taken-for-granted social skills required for effective interaction and the development of empathy, including question technique for developing perspective, as well as the three proofs of rhetoric (ethos, logos and pathos).

The workshop concludes with a review of assertiveness and the techniques required to strengthen emotional resolve in the face of resistance or conflict.

Delegates will also receive a workbook which will contain all of the content discussed in the workshop.

Please be aware that while it is free for you to attend this workshop, each space represents an investment of £225. Please refer to our cancellation policy here
