How do you begin to assess which is the right governance model for your museum?
And once you’ve established this, how do you continue to ensure that strategic and forward planning is effective and stays on track?
This workshop examines different models of governance for independent museums, including an explanation and consideration of the new option of Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). It then focuses on efficient management of the Board, including an overview of the basic legal obligations of trustees, recruiting for necessary skills together with succession planning.
Who should attend?
Staff, Trustees and volunteers who
- need to ensure their legal form is the right one for their museum;
- wish to know more about governance options;
- feel their current governance could be more efficient;
- require guidance on managing trustee boards more effectively
What will you learn?
By the end of the day, you should know...
- what legal models are available for your museum;
- how to begin to assess options for your governance;
- what a CIO is;
- the differences between governance and management;
- how to ensure your strategic planning and management is efficient;
- why now is never too early for succession planning
Bring a notebook and something to lean on as you may not always be seated at a table.
