About this event
Are you someone who works, volunteers, or regularly engages with asylum seekers and refugees in Brent? If so, you are invited to join our free training to learn about raising awareness and supporting victims and to share your views to help shape future support services in Brent.
About the Training
Funded by Brent Council, this 2 hour sessions, delivered by Protection Approaches, will ensure participants will feel more equipped to offer initial basic support and signposting to victims of hate crime, as well as more able to raise awareness of hate crime among the communities they work with. This session will cover:
- Understand hate crime - Learn what hate crime is, the different forms it takes, and its impact on individuals and communities.
- Recognise and respond - understand how and where to report it and learn how to support victims.
- Strengthen communities - Gain practical tools to help make Brent a safer and more inclusive place for everyone.
We intend for workers attending these sessions to live feeling equipped to support the people they work with to understand what hate crime is, as defined in English law and the available resources of reporting and support available, and to make informed decisisons about their responses to hate.
Given the current context we are keen to ensure that the session is as relevant and response as possible to current participant concerns.
A professional hate crime advocate with expertise in victim support will be on hand to offer advice and guidance and answer questions.
Listening to you
The sessions are not only training sessions, it is also our opportunity to hear from you about:
- The scale of hate crime in Brent – What are people experiencing?
- Barriers to support – Why might victims not report incidents or seek help?
- Gaps in services – What`s missing, and how can support be improved?
Your insights will form part of a research report that will shape Brent’s future hate crime services.
