Dr David Ian Lightbody is an archaeologist with a special interest in the origins of architectural and scientific principles, most notably in the ancient Egyptian and Greek cultures. He completed his PhD. on the monuments of Iron Age Cyprus at the University of Glasgow in 2013, during which time he served as chair of Egyptology Scotland.

His studies and lectures at the University of Glasgow encompassed the ancient Egyptian world and its contribution to the early development of math, engineering, architecture, and the early sciences. In 2016 he founded the Journal of Ancient Egyptian Architecture (JAEA) with co-editor Franck Monnier. He has published several journal articles, monographs, and the Great Pyramid Haynes Operations Manual (2,590 B.C. onwards), which has become Haynes’s best-selling history title to date. David is currently based in Vermont, USA.
