Understanding Mental Health - Awareness Workshop

Do you have a family member or friend who has been diagnosed with a mental health condition? Do you have colleagues who experience mental health difficulties? Would you like to know how to recognise and cope with the signs and symptoms in yourself, family members, friends and colleagues?

On this course, you will learn about the signs & symptoms including the treatment and management of stress, anxiety, depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.

We provide relevant up to date training, the format of the workshop is experiential and interactive. Participants are given time to immediately apply what they have learnt amongst their peers in a classroom type setting.

Course Aims:

  • Describe the main types of mental ill health according to the psychiatric (DSM/ICD) classification system: mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, eating disorders, cognitive disorders
  • Explain the key strengths and limitations of the psychiatric classification system
  • Recognise how mental ill health may be indicated by an individual’s emotions, thinking and behaviour
  • Explain how individuals experience discrimination due to misinformation, assumptions and stereotypes about mental ill health
  • Explain how mental ill health may have an impact on the individual including:
  1. psychological and emotional
  2. practical and financial
  3. the impact of using services
  4. social exclusion
  5. positive impact
  • Explain how mental ill health may have an impact on those in the individual’s family, social or work network including:
  1. psychological and emotional
  2. practical and financial
  3. the impact of using services
  4. social exclusion
  5. positive impact
  • Explain the benefits of early intervention in promoting an individual’s mental health and well-being

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You must be 18 or over to attend this training

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the training?

There is FREE parking available all day outside the main entrance. The closest train station is Leagrave and you would need to get a taxi from the train station to the venue which is about 6-8 Minutes’ drive from the station to the venue. There is also a taxi station situated at the train station.

Will there be refreshments?

Tea & coffee will be available throughout the day. Feel free to bring your own lunch or there is Gregg’s bakery and a Subway within 2 miles from the venue.

Is there wheelchair access?

The training room is located on the ground floor and is very accessible.

What's the refund policy?

You will receive a full refund providing that you cancel 30 days or more before the day of the event. If you wish to cancel within 30 days, we will be unable to provide any refund.
