Understanding Paediatric Dysphagia through Videofluoroscopy

This study day is suitable for community SLT’s working with a dysphagia caseload who wish to enhance their understanding of the anatomy and physiology of normal and disordered swallowing through the medium of Videofluoroscopy (VFSS).

The day will include case studies to facilitate discussions to support clinical decision making with your dysphagia caseload.


Preliminary Programme (subject to change)

  • Neurophysiology of paediatric swallowing

  • Orientation and identification of paediatric oro-pharyngeal anatomy for swallowing

  • Expectations of normal paediatric swallowing using VFSS

  • Visualising the disordered swallow

  • Facilitated case study discussion of the impact of management strategies for the disordered swallow

  • Considerations in referring a child for VFSS

  • Preparing a child for VFSS
