This course is designed to give attendees an overview of Parliament’s role and processes, enable them to understand Parliament’s constitutional role, and understand the government’s basic obligations towards Parliament.

The course will be suitable for civil servants of grade HEO and upwards, and EOs involved in policy work.

Attendees will:

  • Understand the UK Parliament’s work, role and processes

  • Understand how Parliament holds their department to account, including responsibilities of their ministers towards Parliament

  • Understand why Parliament is important to their role

The training will focus on providing an understanding of Parliamentary activities, and briefly touch upon the responsibilities of the civil service in responding to Parliament.

The follow-up practitioner course will look in more detail at the timescales and activities involved in responding to Parliamentary activities.
