Postpartum depression affects around one in ten parents – both men and women, birthing and non-birthing people. Mental ill-health is one of the most common challenges that new parents face. While it can have serious consequences for families, these outcomes are not inevitable when the condition is identified early and treated.
In this workshop, we will explore the scope of the problem, how to recognise postpartum depression, and the factors that contribute to it. We will then cover evidence-based treatments and, most importantly, explore opportunities for prevention at both individual and societal levels.
Workshop Highlights:
- Identify the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression in parents of all genders
- Understand the risk factors and how they influence mental health in the perinatal period
- Explore practical treatment options and support strategies for families
- Discover approaches to prevent postpartum depression and promote family wellbeing
