Understanding SAP and the Home Energy Model?
The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) has been used in Building Regulations compliance since the 1990s. However, many people working in the construction industry are not fully aware of how SAP works. Instead, developers and designers often depend heavily on input from energy assessors, which can lead to missed opportunities in building design and potentially higher construction costs.
SAP is due to be replaced by a more detailed tool known as the Home Energy Model. This will likely have implications on building design and the level of information required to comply with Building Regulations.
It has been clear over the past 30+ years that if many developers had a better understanding of how SAP works, they would more easily and cheaply comply with the regulations and be less reliant on the knowledge of the energy assessor.
This course aims to bridge the gap between the developer/designer and energy assessor by providing an understanding of how SAP and the Home Energy Model work and the impact on compliance of various forms of construction and building services.
Recent advice from Government is that both SAP & HEM will be used can be used in the upcoming regulations for some time to come.
