Overview

Understanding Self-Sabotage from A Physiological & Biochemical Perspective Workshop with Sarah Hunt

How many times have we tried to change and yet blinked and found ourselves doing the ‘same old thing’? How many times have we worked with clients who felt like they had a major breakthrough or made major progress, only to feel something inside of them self-sabotaging their efforts at growth, healing and transformation? Is the body actually the one to blame? Can the body —including its physiological, biochemical and neurological habits —become part of our subconscious?

This workshop approaches the phenomenon of ‘self-sabotage’ from the perspective of the body. It will discuss the science — including the physiological, biochemical and neurological realities of the ‘self’, how the body becomes part of the subconscious and why this can become a barrier to change.

All of our experiences and emotions are embodied. We don’t simply experience a painful event, trauma or long-term stressful scenario in our minds and feelings. We also experience everything in the physical body. Over time our physical bodies become conditioned by the biochemistry, neurology and physiology of our common emotional states. Learning how to guide and influence these aspects of our embodied selves is an essential aspect of the journey of inner transformation and healing.

This workshop will share why our understanding of the ‘subconscious mind’ must also include the body and the physiological, biochemical and neurological patterns it has created during the painful life event that endure long after that event has passed. It will also discuss how to harness the power of the body to shift these ‘subconscious’ patterns and how the body can become a powerful ally on the mental health and therapeutic journey.
