Description

Understanding the Autistic Spectrum

This training event offers teachers the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the autistic spectrum, the wide variety of characteristics that present and how they can help and support children with autism in a mainstream school environment.

Course Outcomes: Participants will have:

  • Explored the different ways in which the autistic spectrum presents

  • Considered the challenge for all those who are responsible for meeting the needs of children and young people who suffer from autism

  • Developed an awareness of current thinking and research and how to keep up to date with changes in practice in this area

  • Gained an updated understanding of the strategies that are available to professionals and families

Current estimates conclude that 1 in 100 children in the UK suffer from some form of autism. It is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how children communicate, how they relate to other people and their experience of the world around them. There is a spectrum of autism-related conditions and while there is no known cure our understanding has grown tremendously and there are evidence-related interventions that can assist.

Registration for the event starts at 8.45am with the course beginning at 9.00am, the event will finish by 1.00pm
