Understanding the Bay: Your Heritage
Documentary Research Training for Volunteers: Arnside
When: Saturdays 7th and 14th January, 10-4pm
Where: Westmorland Room, Arnside Educational Insitute, Church Hill, Arnside
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TICKET ISSUED COVERS BOTH SESSIONS ON 7TH AND 14TH JANUARY. VOLUNTEERS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND ALL WORKSHOPS.
Join us as a volunteer to help investigate and collect historical and archaeological information about sites around Morecambe Bay.
Over two day workshops (7th and 14th January), learn the skills required to access archaeological and historical records and documentary evidence, focusing on the salt industry and maritime heritage of the local area.
Training outline as follows:
- Basic research skills and sources of information
- Historic mapping/place names
- Aerial photography
- Landscape assessment (through optional site visits)
- Report writing and archiving
Site visit: Please note that the sessions will include optional site visits (to be arranged). Further details will be sent prior to the training.
Subsequent archive visits, research and drop in sessions will be arranged during Winter 2016-7 to support volunteers in researching local historic sites for this project. An archive visit to Lancashire Archives in Preston is being held on the evening 7th February and places can be book seperately.
We ask that volunteers attend all sessions and help to undertake additional research for the project once you have received the training (approximately 5-10 hours in addition to the workshops).
