Join us as a volunteer to help investigate and collect historical and archaeological information about sites around Morecambe Bay.

Over the three half-day workshops (20th Dec, 10th Jan, 17th Jan), learn the skills required to access archaeological and historical records and documentary evidence of the Bay

Training outline as follows:

  • Historic mapping/place names
  • Aerial photography
  • Landscape assessment
  • Report writing and archiving

Site visit: Please note that the sessions may include optional site visits (to be arranged). Further details will be sent prior to the training.

Subsequent archive visits, research and drop in sessions will be arranged during Winter 2016-7 to support volunteers in researching local historic sites for this project. An archive visit is being held on the morning of 20th December (10-12pm) and places can be book seperately.

We ask that volunteers attend all sessions and help to undertake additional research for the project once you have received the training (approximately 5-10 hours in addition to the workshops).

Trainers: The workshops will be hosted by Dr. Richard Newman and data collection/support overseen by Cat Peters of Wardell Armstrong Archaeology.
