Aim: To show how to develop a trauma-centric thinking framework within your organisation and/or own practice by exploring the reasons why young men from inner-cities can be violent.

Objectives:

Understanding the causes of inner-city adolescent violence.
Contextualising trauma in relation to young men associated with gangs or gang-like activity
Countering violence with trauma-centric approaches

This workshop will be facilitated by: Whitney Iles

Whitney is the chief executive officer of Project 507 and has over 17 years experience as a frontline practitioner working with young people and communities affected by violence. Her professional experience expands across the community and criminal justice system, having worked in several prison estates with high risk individuals.

She has trained in forensic psychodynamic and organisational psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman Clinic and Association for Psychodynamic Practice and Counselling in Organisational Settings. Her specialist focus is on violence and trauma using a psychoanalytic framework, which influences work as both a practitioner and trainer. Whitney has held multiple professional roles across the sector and is currently completing an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development at SOAS.
