Event description

Description

Understanding the Neuroscience of Attachment and the Impact of Developmental Trauma, Toxic Stress and Shame

What will this event involve?

Clinical Psychologists from Nurture-Psychology Service deliver training to help parents, carers and professionals working with children, to develop an understanding about the importance of early relationships and trauma on the way children and young people develop and subsequently learn & relate to others. The training builds knowledge about the impact of trauma & disruptions in these early relationships. We explore how to help these young people develop emotional regulation, resilience and recover.

Day Schedule

Arrive from 9.15am: Registration and morning refreshments

Prompt 9:30am start

Morning: Introduction to Attachment & Neuroscience (Level One).

We develop participant’s knowledge about the neuroscientific structure of the brain, including influence of toxic stress and how this impacts on emotional regulation. We also explore Attachment Theory and look at how disruptions in attachment patterns can help us understand behaviour.

Buffet Lunch

Afternoon: The role of shame & related practical strategies (Level Two).

We build on the understanding from level one & consider the crucial role of shame in relation to anti-social behaviour. We consider evidence-based techniques for helping promote recovery in children & help you to develop practical skills to use in your role to promote optimal brain development, resilience & recovery.

*Lunch, unlimited refreshments and snacks included.
