Understanding Trauma and Helping Recovery (10.00am) - An Introduction
Event Information
About this Event
Kinship Carers may be finding it hard to understand their children’s behaviours - running away, locking themselves in their rooms and becoming violent (especially just now in lockdown). It can help to understand that these may go back to the child’s experiences early in life and something in their present has triggered that Trauma Memory. The behaviour, difficult as it can be, is a reaction to this.
We will look at what Trauma is and where it comes from and while there are no magic bullets we will discuss some approaches to support children who are affected by developmental Trauma and/or resurfacing Trauma.
Delivered by Anne Wilson Head of Development and Head Kinship Care Service with over 10 years’ experience in delivering workshops to Kinship Carers and related practitioners on Mental Health and Wellbeing on subjects such as Trauma, Loss and Grief.
Part of Kinship Care Week.
