Trauma is a widespread experience that can impact an individual’s mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Whether caused by a single distressing event or prolonged exposure to adversity, trauma can shape a person’s thoughts, behaviors and relationships. This course provides a foundational understanding of trauma.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what is meant by trauma
  • Understand physical and psychological responses to trauma
  • Feel confident recognising symptoms and behaviours in oneself and others
  • Explore how to support someone in a sensitive and ethical wayUnderstand the importance of boundaries and self-care
  • Explore resources and signposting options

Methods of delivery: Taught over 3 hours using tutor facilitated learning.

This course is designed for professionals and individuals who interact with those who may have experienced trauma, including:

  • Healthcare providers, therapists and social workers
  • Teachers, school staff and childcare professionals
  • Community workers, volunteers and support staff
  • Employers, HR professionals and team leaders
  • Anyone looking to improve their understanding of trauma and emotional well-being

Eligibility: Open to all learners aged 18 or over. No previous experience or training is necessary. Participants will be asked to self- reflect and empathise with a person having thoughts of suicide. There is no expectation on participants to share personal experiences.
