We think we know Europe. But do we know its furthest frontiers, the remote foothills of the Caucasus Mountains or the Chechnya beyond the one in the news? These are lands that evoke memories of childhood legend, where wolves roam the dark forests and ancient monasteries can trace their ancestry back to the early beginnings of Christianity.
Many of the Balkan states are healing from wounds and, although not mainstream tourist trails yet, they offer fascinating culture amid beautiful, rugged landscapes. Montenegro is the short-haul destination of the moment. WF MD Jonny found himself tour leading there twice in two months in 2016 and will share what he found this small yet absolutely stunning country has to offer. Ukraine translates as ‘Land on the Edge’ and is a stunning destination we're introducing in 2017, on a two-week tour combined with Moldova. Marc spent two weeks in Bosnia this September and will tell us more about his fascinating time there.
We're also running our first trip to the North Caucasus in 2017, where our travellers will explore the fascinating regions which fed the imaginations of great writers like Pushkin and Tolstoy, Ingushetia, Abkhazia, Chechnya, Dagestan and North Ossetia.
Join us to hear more about the history, culture and scenery of these fascinating lands.
