About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours 30 minutes

“From hour to hour, we ripe and ripe,

And then, from hour to hour, we rot and rot;

And thereby hangs a tale.”

These evocative lines from Shakespeare hint at the cyclical nature of life and decay, a process beautifully illustrated in the fascinating world of fungi.

Imagine exploring the enchanting As You Like It wood (Soulton Wood), a location with an enduring connection to William Shakespeare’s beloved play.

For the first time, we’re offering rare public access to these picturesque woodlands at autumn, providing a unique backdrop for our fungal adventure. Join our expert guides from the Shropshire Fungus Group as we delve into the undergrowth, uncovering the diverse and often overlooked fungal treasures that thrive in this environment. From the vibrantly coloured to the subtly camouflaged, autumn is a prime time to witness the incredible variety of mushrooms and toadstools that call these woods home.

This foray is part of our ongoing programme of explorations across the beautiful county of Shropshire, offering opportunities to learn about, identify, and appreciate the vital role fungi play in our ecosystems.
