Anouchka Grose and Robert Brewer Young discuss their new book Uneasy Listening with film-maker Andrea Arnold

About this event

Uneasy Listening (MACK Books) is a unique dialogue between two very different kinds of professional listener: a psychoanalyst, Anouchka Grose, and a violin-maker, Robert Brewer Young. Katherine Angel has described it as ‘a lively, enlivening, and moving explanation of what it is to listen’. Both the authors will be in conversation with the filmmaker Andrea Arnold.

Anouchka Grose is a psychoanalyst and writer practicing in London. She is the author of two novels and six non-fiction books. Anouchka’s articles have been published in Granta and the Guardian, amongst others. She gives talks at museums and galleries, as well as sometimes speaking on the radio.

Robert Brewer Young trained as a luthier in the artists’ studios of Carnegie Hall in New York. He has cared for numerous instruments by Stradivari, Guarnari and other Italian masters. He is now devoted to making signature instruments in the spirit of these Cremonese visionaries and to museum level conservation and scientific research. Robert is also a professor of philosophy at the European Graduate School in Switzerland.

Andrea Arnold's feature films include Red Road (2006), Fish Tank (2009), and American Honey (2016), all of which have won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Her documentary Cow premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and was BAFTA nominated for best Documentary 2022.
