In celebration of Black History Month, we have this fantastic exhibition compiled by Age UK Waltham Forest at Hale End library!

These Unheard Stories were gathered in June 2023, as part of the events to mark 75 years since the arrival of the ship Empire Windrush in London .

They are the stories of black elders living in Waltham Forest, who either use our befriending service, or who volunteer as befrienders.

They are the stories of black people who came to Britain in the 1960s and 1970s from the Caribbean and other countries of the former British Empire.

They are stories of courage, resilience, triumphs, love, family and, above all, lives of hard, hard work They are stories of facing and overcoming racism and discrimination.

We honour and thank them for sharing their stories and for the huge, valuable contribution they have made to this country and this Borough, and the thousands like them.

Please drop in during our opening hours:

Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.
