Event description

Description

Whatever your opinion of the Trade Union movement their impact on British politics is undeniable. From the weekend to equality in the workplace via the occasional blackout, unions have played a huge role in modern British political life. However, the days when they brought governments to their knees seem to have passed, for now.

Is the recent increase in union action evidence of a resurgence in the political power of the union? Or are declining membership numbers a sign that in the 21st century our unions are no longer fit for purpose?

Do we need a new labour movement for Post-industrial Britain?

How can workers effectively guard their rights in the gig economy? Have unions adapted to the change in work?

And with decades of UK labour laws intimately entwined with EU Law how will the great repeal bill affect Britain’s workers? Are we met with a great opportunity to throw out the old and create new modern labour laws, or faced with a dangerous lurch into the unknown which jeopardises our hard-fought rights?

Whatever your perspective, come take a peek over the parapet and join us at Texture on the 21st February at 6.30pm for an evening of debate and discussion.

Eddie Dempsey - RMT
