Event description
Debating the future of pay bargaining across the public sector

About this Event

This seminar aims to critique, analyse and debate the challenges facing our membership over the coming years. It aims to consider and debate topics and questions such as:

  • In the context of UK living standards being hit by rising prices and weak wage growth, how do we achieve successful pay negotiations to improve the lives of low paid workers?
  • How do we combat the challenges of lack of trade union recognition and negotiating machinery to achieve pay successes for our members?
  • How do we challenge the gender pay gap to make our workplaces more equal?
  • How do we deliver effective campaigns to lobby the government to end zero hours contracts?
  • In a rapidly changing public sector landscape, with a multitude of growing private non-unionised employers, a decline in national pay bargaining and an entrenched stagnation of pay, how can we reinvigorate and reinforce the power of collective bargaining?

Guest speakers include Dr Lydia Hayes, author of Stories of Care: A Labour of Law, 8 Good Reasons Why Adult Social Care Needs Sectoral Collective Bargaining, and co-author of Trade Unions and Economic Inequality.

Tickets are available to Unison members only. Book now to avoid disappointment!
