Event description

Description

As Universal Credit rolls out across the UK without any signs of slowing, the risk of costly duplication among authorities and social landlords is huge.

Drawing on their experience of responding to the most ambitious change to the welfare system since it was created, authorities, advice agencies and support projects from pathfinder ‘Full Service’ areas will share their experience and ideas to help make the transition smoother as UC rolls out elsewhere.

Hear from:

  • Southwark Council on challenges and responses as both a landlord and Full Service authority
  • Citizens Advice Southwark has witnessed the impact on services and addressed the concerns of claimants
  • Social Publishing Project and Clean Slate Training & Employment – two social enterprises on the frontline of education and support for low income households describe the claimant’s perspective and the practical help they have developed

Discussion will cover the practical challenges of the Universal Credit Full Service from a range of perspectives and the responses made by authorities, advice agencies and support projects. A panel discussion will provide time for constructive debate and further questioning and a networking lunch offers the opportunity to build links and help reduce duplicated effort and cost as UC rolls out.

The event, co-hosted by the Central and East London Financial Capability Forum (run by Citizens Advice Southwark) and the Social Publishing Project, is supported by the London Institute of Banking & Finance.

Lunch is available from 1-2pm.

Aimed at senior local authority officers and social landlords, we expect the event to very popular and so we are initially limiting tickets to two per organisation.

Supported by the London Institute of Banking and Finance, Citizens Advice Southwark, and the Social Publishing Project.
