Description

Course Description

Is it actually Universal? No. When is it coming in? Depends where you live. How many people will be affected? About 7 to 12 million. Come and find out more, so that you can support people to negotiate the changes and make sure they get what they’re entitled to.

Universal Credit (UC) is in the process of being rolled out in Devon this year. It will replace six separate benefits with one single monthly payment and will affect thousands of people on a low income, whether unemployed or in work, including more than a quarter of all families.

This course is for all organisations that want a better understanding of the impact of the roll out of UC in Devon and recent changes. It will help participants identify ways of supporting people who need to claim the new benefit.

Course Aims & Objectives

The course will enable participants to:

  • understand the key features of UC;
  • understand the arrangements for transfer to UC within Devon;
  • identify potential entitlement, for clients in a range of circumstances;
  • understand the process for claiming and being paid UC ;
  • use a client centred approach to explore the issues and options for a client;
  • identify people who will be vulnerable and will need additional support.
