Event description

Description

Oxford and District Action on Child Poverty(ODACP) and Oxford City Council are holding a Universal Credit workshop on 18th May. The event is aimed at organisations who are engaging with or supporting people moving to the new benefit. It is a chance to share experiences about the impact of the Universal Credit rollout, and to discuss practical steps to take to make things better. Universal Credit replaces Housing Benefit, means tested Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support, means tested Employment & Support Allowance, Working Tax Credits and Child Tax Credits for working age people.

How is it affecting the City and County Councils, the advice centres, local charities, housing associations and, most important of all, the local people who need the help it’s supposed to provide?

Hear from speakers including Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds, and take part in the discussions and help to devise solutions to the problems you and others are facing.

This event is free but please let us know you’re coming for catering purposes. Space is limited so we are restricting attendance to one person per organisation. Refreshments will be available from 9am, with the event commencing from 9.30am.

If you there are any particular impacts of Universal Credit you would like to discuss, please contact Paul Wilding (pwilding@oxford.gov.uk) with details to help inform the agenda.

ODACP is a local group which seeks to draw attention to and act on issues of child poverty at the local level in Oxford and the surrounding areas. In particular, we raise concerns with our local MPs and councillors; write letters to the local press; carry out small scale surveys on topical issues such as the cost of Christmas, the costs of education, the minimum wage, child benefit and others; give evidence on local child poverty to inquiries (etc.). We have organised over the years a series of workshops, often jointly with others, on priority issues such as education and poverty in Oxfordshire; the impact of 'welfare reforms' etc
