Event description

Description

This is the first of three workshops for researchers working in the field of children and childhood. The workshop has three aims:

  • To share experiences, from various disciplinary perspectives, of the University ethics approval process;
  • To consider the extent to which University ethical protocols support or, indeed, obstruct research involving children.
  • To consider how we might enhance ethics-related support and resources for research involving children.

PhD students as well as established academics and researchers from a wide array of disciplines including law, medicine, sociology and social policy, psychology, child developmental studies and public health will be invited to share their experiences of gaining ethical approval for their respective research projects. The workshop will also include personnel from the University of Liverpool ethics committee who will elaborate on current ethical protocols and procedures from an institutional perspective. The breadth and scope of such contributions will hopefully serve to expand our collective perceptions of progressive approaches to children’s research in an ethically rigorous way.
