Event description

Description

Much of the world's economy uses a linear model of production: we take resources from the earth, we make a product, we use that product and then we dispose of that item, often back to the earth.

There are many environmental costs to each of these stages and the impacts are getting bigger as the products we make/buy become less robust and need to be replaced more often. But what if we could keep the items we own in circulation for longer by using the skills of repairers and developing our own knowledge in this area?

Repair Cafe's throughout the world work to do just that and we are delighted to be hosting our first Repair Cafe in the University of Cambridge.

Learn more about the Repair Cafe movement in Cambridge by watching this video

On May 1st we will have:

  • A team of repairers to help fix damaged items (clothes, electronics, jewellry and books)
  • Information on waste disposal in the University
  • Launch a new service to cut lab waste
  • Dr Bike to repair staff bikes - book your slot here
  • A series of talks of the innovative ways University staff are reducing waste

Come along for what is bound to be a fun and thought provoking event.

Tea and coffee will be available.

This event is for University of Cambridge staff and students.
