University of Greenwich: Start Strong | Stay Strong
Event Information
About this Event
Programme background
Are you a University of Greenwich undergraduate student?
Do you identify as Black, Asian or of Minority Ethnicity (BAME)?
Then this programme is for you.
Research(OfS) shows that Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) students' experience of higher education is not always as positive as it could and should be.
The Start Strong | Stay Strong is a joint initiative between the University of Greenwich and Greenwich Student Union. Together we aim to address some of the highlighted concerns by creating a platform to bring BAME students together to explore the issues, share experiences and strategies your route to success.
Through raising awareness, signposting and peer support the programme aims to improve your achievement rates and foster an overall sense of belonging and well-being amongst group members. There will also be an opportunity to discuss how we could improve your overall university experience in the current corona climate and beyond.
The programme consists of five online workshops and a celebratory event. To fully benefit, we recommend you commit to attending at least three sessions.
#3 Ask A Professional + Q&A
Hear from four successful BAME graduates who are making waves in their chosen careers. Find out who they are, how they made it, and what advice they would give to their undergraduate self.
Panellists:
- Elizabeth Takyi (Community Activist - Dyslexia)
- Lucien Spencer (Criminal Justice Service)
- Oluwatoyin Odunsi (Arts Production/Education and DJ)
- Shakira Hylton (Marketing & Communications)
Followed by Q&A discussion panel.
Attendance will earn you 10 Greenwich Employability Passport points!
