Visitors are encouraged to use public transport to reach the University, please view general travel information to the University.

Train: Sheffield is at the heart of the railway network. Regular services operate between Sheffield and London St. Pancras (from just over 2 hours), Birmingham (1.25 hours), Leeds (1 hour) Manchester (1 hour) and Nottingham (1 hour).

Think Green! Please consider walking, the University is approximately 30 minute walk from the train station. There is a direct link from the railway station to the Sheffield Station Supertram stop via the main overbridge.

Buses: A number of regular bus services stop at or near the University. The most frequent of these are the 51, 52 and 95 from the city centre and the 120 from Sheffield Transport Interchange. A detailed list of all bus services that serve the University campus, their timetables and live departure information can be found by clicking any of the bus stops on the Travel South Yorkshire interactive public transport map.

Tram: You can catch the Supertram to the campus from Meadowhall, the railway station and the city centre. Both the blue route to Malin Bridge and the yellow route to Middlewood stop at West Street and at the University. A discounted student ticket called the Unirider is available through the Stagecoach site. Stagecoach journey planner

Parking: Parking for visitors is available in Q Park Car Parks on campus on Durham Road and Solly Street.

Travelling by train?

If you are travelling by train, it could be worthwhile getting a 16-25 Railcard if you haven't already got one as this gives you 1/3 discount on most rail fares (the railcard costs £30 renewable each year). Advance tickets are usually much cheaper than Anytime or Off Peak Return, although are valid on the specific service only whereas the more expensive tickets allow greater flexibility. If you are booking Advance tickets, it is best to book a train from Sheffield after about 5.15pm to get to the train station with plenty of time.

If you are travelling from London or South East, it is worth looking at www.megatrain.com (external link) which offers very cheap train tickets at certain times (you get an e-ticket reference number which is valid for the specific train only). It may work out cheaper using your Oyster Card to get to London St Pancras International and then use a megatrain ticket direct to Sheffield.
