We are delighted to be running this funded showcase to show elements of excellent practice in the teaching of early reading. This half- day workshop will share best practice in the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics whilst promoting a love of reading.
The event will include:
- An introductory talk explaining the key leadership decisions taken which have enabled reading to be successful
- learning walks to see and discuss best practices in the teaching of phonics and reading
- opportunities for Q&A with phonics lead
- follow up support after the event and potential access to funding
Who should attend?
2 places per school - Headteacher to accompany EYFS / Year 1 teachers
Schools new to Unlocking Letters & Sounds phonics programmes or considering moving to Unlocking Letters & Sounds or schools keen to see this phonics programme used effectively.

Funding Information:
The cost of attending this event is FREE to all schools and your school will receive funding of £150 for attending this event if you meet two of the following DfE criteria:
- Schools with a lower that average % of pupils meeting EXS in Y1 PSC 2025
- Schools with a higher than national % of children eligible for pupil premium (25.7%)
- Schools where Y1 PSC results for disadvantaged pupils are below national PSC results
- Schools with high proportion of hard to reach groups such as EAL, FMS, travellers
- Schools referred by local partners (e.g. NLEs, RSDs, LAs)
- Schools where standards in phonics are identified as areas for development through OFSTED inspection findings
- Schools where there is a risk of declining standards in phonics
- Previous partner schools who received intensive support two or more years ago, have experienced significant systemic change since leaving the programme and whose PSC results have declined
